Happy C-Day brothers

a

SXSW

it
was one kick ass
week!!! Hot Live Guys on the Friday at Friends destroyed
everything and everyone in it's path, Scott
Nolan at Jovita's on Saturday at left jaws
dropped and hearts melted, and American Flamewhip
squared off against the Stooges and Turbonegro
down the street and blew the fuckin' doors
off the Mowhawk. more SXSW news to follow
as well as some Family additions.

“I enjoyed your Transistor 66 show as much
as any rock show I’ve seen this year”
- Brent Grulke
Creative Director
SXSW
How's that for a headline? O.K,big news this time around would have to be
our WCMA label showcase that took place right here
in the wicked 'Peg, at our favorite venue,
the legendary Royal Albert. Scott Nolan, American Flamewhip, Hot Live
Guys, The Fabulous Kildonans and Agriculture Club brought their collective A game to our Transistor 66 showcase, and we can honestly say we've
never bin' prouder. This was the closest we've had our happily
dysfunctional '66 family together under one
roof and it was certainly somethin' special.
Our showcase summary
is below, interjected
with the review from
our friends at UPTOWN Magazine.
The night kicked
off with Scott Nolan
and
Joanna Miller offering
up a stripped down
(Figurative not literal,
you'll see in a
bit why we had to
clarify)version of
their
unique raucous roots. On a night ladened with straight ahead rock,
Scott showed there are few audiences he can't
impress
"If you ordered sweaty, dirty-ass rock
’n’ roll awesomeness, the Transistor 66 Records
showcase at the Albert delivered in spades. With his drums placed front and center, American
Flamewhip’s Chris (Mama) Bauer beat the skins
like they were a red-headed step-child before
doing his best Keith Moon-ripping-shit-up
impression.
Going even further
into the pandemonium
were
the always chaotic
Hot Live Guys. Guitarist Joe Warkentin was in his usual
position, which is everywhere but on the
stage. His antics steered attention away from drummer
Mike Johnson’s onstage nudity, but at show’s
end a lucky few got to see the over-exposed
percussionist sit in an ice-filled beer bucket.
The Fabulous Kildonans topped both M ama and the Guys when Fat Johnny Campbell
trashed his brand-new Gibson Firebird guitar
as the old-school trio brought its punk-rocking
set to a close with a cover of The Dead Boys’
classic Sonic Reducer."
Cappin' off our night
was Agriculture Club. Drivin' all the way from Calgary for our
family get together, Ag Club took their patented
whiskey fuelled country metal to new heights
on this evening. Waylon Nelson, The Rubber
Duck, Gordon Leadfoot and Billy Ray Virus
put the exclamation point on our showcase
that was carried on till the early morning
- mid afternoon hours at World Headquarters.
